Open Air Burning By-law
The Open Air Burning By-law states that no person shall set a fire in the open air within the boundaries of the municipality or allow a fire to burn without first having obtained a permit from the Chief Fire Official. This does not include open air fires, which may be set without having obtained a permit when such burning consists of a small, confined fire, supervised at all times and used to cook food on a grill or a barbecue.
How To Obtain an Open Air Burning Permit
To obtain a permit for open air burning, an application must be completed and returned to Richmond Hill Fire & Emergency Services Headquarters located at 1200 Elgin Mills Road East or by fax 905-780-2939. Further information is available by contacting the Fire Prevention Division at (905) 883-5444.
