In 2004, the Town’s Engineering & Public Works Department began its annual Energy Efficiency Open House in partnership with York Region Public Health and the Windfall Ecology Centre
, to promote energy saving measures to staff. Each year, local utilities, businesses and organizations are invited to set up displays demonstrating programs, products or technologies that help reduce energy consumption in everyday activities. Along with a wealth of valuable information from the mouths of the experts, staff who attend receive numerous free samples, such as efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs, and can enter a draw for a variety of related prizes donated by vendors, as well as the Town of Richmond Hill. Ultimately, staff have the opportunity to walk away with practical knowledge and tools for making significant energy – and energy bill – savings.
