Please be advised that the Town of Richmond Hill Water and Waste Water Section will be performing annual fire flow testing and servicing of all municipal fire hydrants starting Thursday, October 1. It is expected that this work will be completed by Monday, November 30.
This work is part of our commitment to monitor and maintain our inventory of fire hydrants in partnership with Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services.
As we will be flowing water at the fire hydrants in your neighbourhood, there could be a slight drop in water pressure accompanied by a reddish colouration of the water (rust) when this work is being performed in your neighbourhood. This discoloured water could cause some inconvenience, as it may leave stains on fixtures and laundry. It is preferable to do your laundry and wash the dishes between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. during the week or at any time on the weekends.
Canadian Hydrant Technologies (CHT), will have signs on their work vehicles indicating they are our authorized Town of Richmond Hill Contractor, and will be performing this work between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 p.m.
What to do in case of rusty water? If you notice discoloured water, we suggest that you turn on the cold water and let it run until the water becomes clear. It is preferable to do your laundry and wash the dishes between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m. during the week or at any time on the weekends.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our Operations Centre at (905) 884-8013.
