Participants at the celebration will feast on a traditional nine-course Chinese meal while being entertained by performances by a lion dance group, a Chinese string music group, the Orient Dance Company and Yip’s Chamber/Choral School.
Proceeds from ticket sales will raise much-needed funds for the arts through the newly-created Mayor’s Endowment Fund for the Arts. The Fund will contribute to the arts in Richmond Hill by providing local arts groups and individual artists with the opportunity to apply for grants to sponsor programs and performances.
This celebration is the first of many events Mayor Barrow plans to host in recognition of the rich ethnic traditions that characterize Richmond Hill. In March, Mayor Barrow will also be observing Nowruz, the Persian New Year, with a similar event on March 31.
