The Sports Awards celebration is an annual event recognizing Richmond Hill athletes who have demonstrated exceptional achievement from the previous calendar year in participation, sport conduct, community service and/or long-term athlete development.
At the event, nine young athletes (younger than 18) from a wide range of sports, including figure skating, kayaking and baton twirling, will receive a plaque in recognition of their athletic achievements. Members of Council will be on hand to officially present the awards to the athletes in a formal ceremony.
As well, three Superstar Coach Awards will be handed out to honour Richmond Hill coaches representing soccer, softball and baton twirling who have made a significant contribution to an individual or team.
Special guest speaker, Doug Dimma (local athlete, coach and the new general manager of the Barrie Baycats Baseball Team) will kick off the evening ceremony by sharing with the audience some of his experiences in amateur professional sport. Members of the York Region 55+ (Senior) Summer Games will also be on hand to receive a special acknowledgement certificate for their achievements in sport in 2011.
