Guests will enjoy a wonderful dinner and also be entertained by various traditional Iranian folklore, live music and singing performances. The dinner will feature a special Iranian dish as part of the dinner, called Sabzi Polo (a rice and vegetable dish). There will also be an Iranian “Sevens Table” set up, which is a traditional Nowruz table (Sofreh haft-seen) that consists of seven kinds of food. Each food begins with the letter S (or sin in Farsi), representing the virtues of abundance, health, life, love, patience, purity and wealth.
Proceeds from ticket sales will raise much-needed funds for the arts through the Mayor’s Endowment Fund for the Arts. The Fund will contribute to the arts in Richmond Hill by providing local arts groups and individual artists with the opportunity to apply for grants to sponsor programs and performances. Limited tickets for the event are still available on the Town’s Website at www.richmondhill.ca through the online box office at $50 per person.
The Mayor’s Nowruz is one of several special cultural events which the Town organizes annually. Other events include: Chinese New Year, Diwali (Indian Festival of Lights) and Eid celebrations to honour the diverse mosaic of the Town’s community.
