Collaborative Effort Recognized by EDCO
MedEdge Summit Success Attributed to Richmond Hill, York Region and ventureLAB Partnership 

RICHMOND HILL - Richmond Hill, The Regional Municipality of York and ventureLAB were presented with the Award of Merit by the Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO) for the success of MedEdge 2013: The Bridge to Commercialization through Partnerships.

“The Town of Richmond Hill is delighted to be recognized by EDCO for the MedEdge Summit. By bringing together key organizations in the ecosystem, we have created a unique event in the life science sector that supports companies, entrepreneurs and investors,” said Richmond Hill Mayor Dave Barrow.

The 3rd Annual MedEdge Summit, held on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, was attended by more than 400 medical and health technology professionals. MedEdge is the premier life science business summit and is the catalyst for advancing ideas, connections and innovation into commercial success.

“The annual MedEdge Summit is a key event in the life science industry and it is an honour to be recognized by Economic Developers Council of Ontario for our work,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Bill Fisch. “The partnership between York Region, Richmond Hill and ventureLAB for this event continues to serve our business community well.”

“This award serves as a strong reminder of the important strategic relationship ventureLAB enjoys with the Town of Richmond Hill,” said ventureLab President and CEO Jeremy Laurin. “This award also highlights the economic value the MedEdge Summit continues to develop in our region.”

The award was presented at the 57th Annual EDCO conference held in Toronto on Thursday, February 6, 2014. EDCO, which is comprised of more than 600 members in the economic development profession across Ontario, works to enhance professional competence and advance economic development as a profession while supporting municipalities in fostering economic prosperity. Richmond Hill also received an honourable mention for its new economic development website.

Staff presented the award to Council at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2014.
