Showcase of Parks Sunset Beach Park Map Oak Ridges Community Centre & Park
Sunset Beach Park is located on the shores of Lake Wilcox, the largest kettle lake on the Oak Ridges Moraine. Lake Wilcox supports diverse and sensitive biological communities, while also providing recreational opportunties. Visitors to the park can enjoy this diverse natural habitat over a picnic lunch in the Park's picnic area. Canoeing, sailing and windsurfing are also popular activities. Other park amenities include, public washrooms and parking.
Beach Closed Effective immediately, Sunset Beach is permanently closed. Council approved permanent closure due to safety and environmental issues. Sunset Beach is a man-made beach and the proposed improvements to the lake shoreline will restore a healthy functioning ecosystem consistent with the Lake Wilcox Remediation Strategy. The new pool and waterplay facilities will serve to replace some of the functions associated with the former beach.
Temporary Fencing The temporary fencing within the shoreline vegetation establishment areas is for the protection of the tender new growth from damage by geese. The majority of this fencing was removed in June 2010. A small portion of fencing will remain within the water until Summer 2011.
The fencing along the edge of the road will remain in place until the second redevelopment phase is completed Fall 2011.
