Current Road, Sidewalk & Water-Related Maintenance Projects in Richmond Hill

Unidirectional Watermain Flushing
As part of regular maintenance to Richmond Hill's water system and as part of the Town's ongoing commitment to providing safe drinking water, the Water & Wastewater section is conducting a watermain flushing program beginning Monday, September 26 in Wards 1, 2, 3 and 4.

What does this process involve?
This process flushes high-velocity water through each pipe to remove any buildup of particles that may occur.  As a result of this work, there could be a slight drop in water pressure accompanied by a reddish-coloured water. This discoloured water could cause some inconvenience, as it may leave stains on fixtures and laundry. As this is a large-scale operation that covers Richmond Hill's entire distribution system, you could experience water discolouration on several different occasions.

What should I do in case of discoloured water?
In you notice a discolouration in your water, turn on your cold water tap and let it run until the water is clear. Also, consider doing your laundry and washing your dishes between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. during the week or anytime on Sundays.

We apologize for any inconvenience this process may cause and thank you for your patience. If you have any questions, please call the Operations Centre at 905-884-8013.

Every effort will be made to minimize any inconvenience to the community. We thank you for your cooperation and patience as we continue to improve Richmond Hill and ensure it's the best place to live, work and play.
