Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Product Recycling

Never place hazardous waste in your garbage, Blue Box or Green Bin. Household hazardous waste consists of any product that is corrosive, explosive, flammable or poisonous and includes items such as:

  • Paint
  • Thermostats
  • Pesticides
  • Used motor oil and filters
  • Propane tanks
  • Fuels
  • Batteries
  • Many cleaning products
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Fluorescent tubs and energy efficient light bulbs
  • Syringes
  • Mercury
  • Household Hazardous Materials

    Residents can bring household hazardous waste to the Regional Depot for free.

    Household Hazardous Waste Depot Guidelines

    • When taking materials to the Household Hazardous Waste Depot make sure all materials are in their original containers or that the contents are very well-marked.
    • Do not mix different products together.
    • Be sure that all containers are capped.
    • Containers must be deposited with waste materials, they are not returnable.
    • No commercial, industrial or medical office waste accepted.
    • No explosives (other than the above types), ammunition, PCB's or radioactive waste accepted.
    • Needles and syringes from household medical use will be accepted in rigid containers only (no other pathological waste will be accepted).
    • Motor vehicle batteries and oil filters will also be accepted.

    Electronic Product Recycling

    Old electronic products are not accepted with curbside collection. Electronics such as those listed below can be fully and safely recycled. Just drop them off at the Hazardous Waste Depot, the Elgin Mills Community Environmental Centre or to find other local depots, visit recycleyourelectronics.ca.
