The Facility Watch program is a joint program involving Town administrative, by-law and facility staff and the York Regional Police. The Town recognizes that the majority of patrons use facilities in a responsible manner and is committed to ensuring the safety of these patrons as well as staff. Unfortunately, violence and vandalism can and does happen and this new program aims to eliminate this.
Facility Watch stresses accountability by users; promotes a “zero tolerance” approach to violence and vandalism; and encourages healthy participation, sportsmanship and fair play in an effort to keep Town parks and facilities safe. The program is based on an incident and consequence reporting procedure consisting of three levels. “Level One” incidents range from abusive language and horseplay and can result in a letter of reprimand or suspension. “Level Two” incidents consist of repeat offences and facility damage and can result in police notification, suspension and payment for repair costs. “Level Three” is the highest level and incidents include physical and sexual assault, theft, damage and drug possession. In these cases police are called immediately, payment for repair is sought and suspension for a year or more.
Informational brochures and signage are at all facilities to help residents learn more about this program and encourage patrons to report acts of violence and vandalism.
