Important Information for all Pet Owners
Licensing your dog
Licensing your dog is not only the law, but it could play a critical role in identifying your pet, should your dog become lost or injured. It also attempts to ensure that all dogs have been given their rabies vaccination, which means a healthier and safer environment for you and your pets. The number on the license tag can assist someone in returning a lost dog, or obtaining aid for injured dogs more quickly. If you find a lost or injured dog, contact Animal Control or the Town's licensing office to have arrangements made for the safe return of the dog.
Richmond Hill residents are reminded that every dog in Richmond Hill must be licensed yearly on or before December 31. In addition, the By-law requires that every dog must be vaccinated yearly for rabies.
Richmond Hill residents can purchase dog licences at the following locations:
- Bayview Hill Animal Hospital - 9912 Bayview Avenue
- Canyon Hill Animal Hospital - 11000 Yonge Street
- Dandy Doggy Pet Shop - 13130 Yonge Street

Cleaning up after your pet
The Town of Richmond Hill reminds all residents that it is the responsibility of every pet owner to pick up droppings left behind by their pet. This obligation is enforced by By-law 76-79 which also states that no person shall allow their pet to trespass on private property even when on a leash. Any person who contravenes By-law 76-79 and is found guilty of the offense is liable to a fine of not more than $1,000 exclusive of costs assessed by the court over and above the fine.
