Clean Up Green Up Weeks
You can help give Richmond Hill a spring cleaning during Clean Up, Green Up Weeks!
From April 21 to May 5, residents, businesses, community groups and schools are encouraged to come together to help pick up litter that has accumulated over the winter months in parks, trails, on boulevards and in open spaces.
The City will provide registered participants with gloves and garbage bags and arrange for collection of the filled bags.

Clean Up FAQs
I’m looking for a group to join, what should I do? |
Please email us at wastemgmt@richmondhill.ca, and we will provide you the contact details of a public group that you can join. |
Will my participation count towards my high school volunteer hours? |
Clean Up, Green Up events are not supervised by City of Richmond Hill staff. As a result, City staff will not be able to sign off on volunteer hours. However, a supervising adult may sign off on the community involvement activities form and provide their contact information. For more information or if you have any questions, please contact your school’s guidance counsellor directly. |
I don’t need gloves or bags. Do I still need to register? |
We ask that everyone interested in participating in a litter clean up event between April 21 and May 5 register online. This will allow us to coordinate collection of the filled bags and keep track of how many groups are participating and what areas are going to be cleaned. |
How many pairs of gloves will my group receive? |
The City will provide one pair of medium-sized nitrile gloves per participant. We have a limited supply of large (L) and extra-large (XL) gloves. Please email us at wastemgmt@richmondhill.ca to request these sizes once you have completed the registration form. |
I requested gloves and bags on the registration form. How do I get these supplies? |
If your delivery location is within the boundaries of Richmond Hill, we can deliver the supplies to you between April 11 and 17. Alternatively, you can choose to pick up your supplies at the Operations Centre at 1200 Elgin Mills Rd E by selecting the option on the registration form or by emailing us at wastemgmt@richmondhill.ca. The Operations Centre is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please ensure that your supplies are picked up between April 11 and 17. |
Where should I clean up? |
Choose a greenspace in need of a cleaning in your neighbourhood such as a park, trail, boulevard or other public space. For litter ‘hotspot’ suggestions, please email us at wastemgmt@richmondhill.ca. |
What do I do with the garbage I have collected? |
City of Richmond Hill staff will pick up your bags. Please specify on the registration form the location where you will leave your bags and email wastemgmt@ricmondhill.ca to confirm the location of your bags once you have completed your cleanup. Please choose a location that is easily identifiable and accessible, such as next to an existing City waste container, at a park or trail entrance, or near the road. |
