The Richmond Hill David Dunlap Observatory (RHDDO), designated under the Ontario Heritage Act and a national historic designation, is proudly owned by the City of Richmond Hill.
An iconic park and facility located at 123A Hillsview Drive, plans are underway for the transformation of the RHDDO property into a unique destination park through the RHDDO Master Plan. Learn more about ongoing projects as we implement the first phase of the Master Plan.
The RHDDO first opened in 1935 and was at the forefront of Canadian astronomical research. Learn more about its history and achievements at the site, including advances in radio astronomy and the first direct evidence that Cygnus X-1 was a black hole. Today, the RHDDO is continuing its heritage as a facility for public education and outreach through City-run programs and partnerships.
It is also a popular site for film, television and advertising production.
