Elgin Mills Greenway Restoration Project
Elgin Mills Greenway is a City-owned parcel of green space near Twickenham Park just south of Shaftsbury Avenue, between St. Theresa of Lisieux School and the Elgin West Community Centre. The newly rehabilitated stormwater management facility within Elgin Mills Greenway will undergo invasive species management to ensure the newly planted areas have a chance to establish. Invasive species are often are the first to colonize after a construction project is completed.
Restoration Activities (2021-2023)
Our goal is to ensure the restored Elgin Mills Greenway remains a healthy and diverse urban forest that provides habitat to local wildlife and contributes to a healthy natural ecosystem within the park and surrounding area.
Restoration work will include:
- Removal and treatment of invasive trees and plants that are degrading the health of the woodland
- Tree planting
- Monitoring
2024 Activities
- Invasive plants dominating the woodland will be treated with herbicide this year in an effort to reduce populations and promote the growth of newly planted trees and shrubs.
