Membership Types and Policies
Fitness - Class, Studio, Indoor Track, Plus

We have a variety of memberships that will help you reach your fitness goals. Our Fitness memberships will automatically renew every month.

    • Access to Richmond Hill’s drop-in fitness and aquafitness classes

  2. Fitness Studio Membership
    • Access to all of Richmond Hill’s Fitness Studios
    • Studios have a wide range of cardio and weight training equipment

  3. Indoor Track Membership
    • Unlimited access to indoor 180m track situated over NHL sized rink.

* Post-Secondary Discounts

  • Post-secondary students receive a 20% discount.
  • You must show a valid student card or current timetable when you apply in-person for your membership to get this discount.
  • This discount is not available for memberships purchased online. Purchase a discounted membership in-person at any Community Centre. 

Personal Trainers

To sign-up for a Personal Trainer:

  1. You must have an active Fitness Plus or Fitness Studio Membership prior to your first personal training session.
  2. Purchase your training session(s) at one of Richmond Hill’s Fitness Centres.
  3. A personal trainer will contact you to set up and arrange a time for your training session(s).

* Semi-Private Training Sessions require two people be trained at the same time and location. It is your responsibility to find a partner if you would like to pursue this training option.

Sports - Bocce, Lawn Bowling, Swimming, Skating
  1. Bocce
    • A Bocce Membership enables you to use the bocce facility at Richmond Green Sports Centre and Park.
    • 2024-2025 Bocce Season: September 9 through to August 28. Monday to Thursday from 6 - 10:30 p.m.
    • Purchase your Bocce Membership.

  2. Lawn Bowling
    • A Lawn Bowling Membership enables you to participate in weekday games, as well as weekend tournaments at the Richmond Green Sports Centre and Park.
    • Purchase your Lawn Bowling Membership.

  3. Swimming
    • A Swim Membership provides access to all Recreational Swims (excluding Wave Swims) at all Richmond Hill swimming pools.
    • Purchase your Swim Membership. Our Swimming Memberships will automatically renew every month.

  4. Skating
    • A Skating Membership provides access to all Recreational Skates at all Richmond Hill Arenas.
    • Purchase your Skate Membership.

Community - Adults 55+, Teen
  1. Adults 55+
    • An Adult 55+ Membership is required to participate in all Adult 55+ programs including, drop-in programs, registered programs, events, and workshops. The cost for our Adults 55+ Membership is $35 for Richmond Hill residents, and $63 for non-residents. You can attend drop-in classes for $1.30 ($3.10 for Pickleball*) with a general Adult 55+  membership.

      *Reservations are required for all Pickleball drop-in programs and only a limited number of walk-ins will be admitted if space is available. Reservations for residents opens every Monday at 8 a.m. for the following week. Please note, 10-class passes are not valid for pre-registered pickleball drop-in programs.

    • New! You can now purchase 10-visit drop-in passes online and have it added to your current membership.
  2. Teen
    • A Teen Membership includes unlimited access to all weekly sports activities for the school year (September to June). The membership allows teens to participate in teen drop-in programs at no additional charge.

Additional Membership Information

Membership Policies 
  • Every time you register or renew for a membership, you are required to complete a Membership Application form. 
  • A current valid Fitness Membership must be presented at the Reception Desk every visit. Once your Fitness membership has expired, you must renew your membership with payment prior to entry. 
  • Upon registration you will receive a membership card. All members must scan their Membership Card at the Reception Desk before entering. If you do not have your card with you, entry will not be permitted until your membership status can be verified. This membership card is valid for any membership in Richmond Hill and has no expiry date. A new card will not be issued upon membership renewal. If you misplace your membership card, you will be charged a $10 replacement fee.
  • If attending a Fitness/Aquafitness class, you must scan your membership card and sign in using your name, phone number and/or membership number on the attendance sheet provided. Doing so ensures staff can contact you in case of emergency, class cancellations or changes.
  • Participants are not allowed to save a space, bike or equipment for any other participants planning to attend the class.
  • Participants who arrive more than 10 minutes late for a Fitness/Aquafitness class will not be admitted into the class primarily due to safety concerns (missing the class warm-up) but also due to the disruption caused to other participants and instructor taking away from everyone’s enjoyment of the program.
  • Drop-in fitness studio patrons are required to pay the drop-in fee prior to entry.
  • You are required to present your membership card upon entry for validation and admittance to the fitness areas.
  • Your membership may not be shared with anyone and it is for the sole use of the recipient.
  • Dress Code: Clean and dry athletic (closed toe) shoes must be worn at all times and are mandatory in all fitness areas. No sandals or open toe shoes are permitted. While exercising, members are required to wear active sport clothing; for example, shorts, sweat pants, tank tops and t-shirts.
  • Be scent aware. Please avoid the use of perfume, cologne, scented lotions and other scented products.
  • The maximum time use of the same cardio machine is 30 minutes. Please respect the timeframes allotted to ensure fair and equitable usage of the fitness equipment.
  • Ensure you wipe down the machine (after you use it) using the spray bottle and paper towels supplied in all fitness studios.
  • Promptly return free weights and equipment to their proper location after use.
  • If you see malfunctioning or broken equipment, please let staff know, so the problem can be rectified as soon as possible.
  • Soliciting products or services at or on City of Richmond Hill property is strictly prohibited, including personal training that is not provided by the City of Richmond Hill.
  • Use of cellphones is not permitted in the change rooms.
  • Coarse language and physical, aggressive, disrespectful, or uncooperative behaviour is not acceptable. If inappropriate behaviour occurs, it will be recorded, reported and may result in the removal from the program and /or facility.  For more information, you can check: The Community Code of the Conduct (Richmond Hill’s Facility Watch program). 

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I pay for my membership?

Payment for your membership will be automatically taken from either your credit card or bank account on the 1st of each month. If your scheduled payment is rejected by your credit card or by the bank, a $49.50 NSF Fee will be automatically applied to your customer account.

Can I pay cash for my membership?

No, all payments must be made by credit card or by Electronic Funds Transfer (Directly from bank account).

Can I put a credit on my account with ActiveNet to use towards my monthly payments?

No, you cannot use credit from your account towards your monthly payments.

Do you still sell pay as you go admission and 10 visit punch cards (10 Visit Drop-In Pass)?

Yes, pay as you go is available. 10 Visit Drop-In passes are available for Fitness Classes, Fitness Studio and Indoor Track.

Will my pass expire?

No, your pass will be valid until the day you cancel or if your scheduled payment is rejected by your credit card or by the bank. If your scheduled payment is rejected, you will be required to make payment and provide a new method of payment to reinstate your membership.

I am going away on vacation, can I suspend my pass?

Memberships will no longer be suspended. If you know you will be on vacation or will be unable to attend for a long period of time, cancel your membership before the next scheduled payment date. Once you return, you can purchase the fitness membership again.

How do I cancel my membership?

To cancel your membership, fill out the Withdrawal Request Form and email the completed form to Recreation.

Is there a fee to cancel my membership?

No, there is no fee to cancel your membership. Once you submit your Withdrawal Request Form, your next month’s payment and all future month payments will be cancelled. Your pass will be valid until your next scheduled payment scheduled date (1st of the month). can buy a membership and set up automated payments online at RichmondHill.ca/ActiveRH.

Can I transfer my membership to someone else?

No, your membership cannot be transferred to or shared with someone else.

Drop-In and 10 Visit Passes

Try a sport, learn a new skill, or practice with your friends without the commitment of weekly classes. We offer a wide variety of sports and activities for every age and ability. Visit our drop-in page for a list of programs that suit your schedule and for individual drop-in class fees. 

10 Visit Drop-In Passes

These are available for Fitness, Aquafitness classes, Fitness Studio and Indoor Track, Swimming, and Skating, and 55+ Drop-In programs. These passes can be purchased online. View our tutorial for how to add passes to your account. 

  • If you have a 10 Visit Punch Card, they will still be accepted.

Note: To participate in 55+ drop-in programs you must have a 55+ Membership. If you are not a member you can purchase your ActiveRH Membership Card online or in-person at customer service desks at any Community Centre.

ActiveRH Membership Card

Our enhanced Membership Card allows you to add multiple memberships to the same card for all your activities. You can now load all your drop-in passes directly onto your current membership card and use it right away! View our tutorial for how to add passes to your account.
