Richmond Hill will accept applications for the vacant position of Ward 4 Councillor from February 14 to March 15, 2022 at 2 p.m. The vacancy was created when former Ward 4 Councillor David West was elected Mayor in the January By-election.
Richmond Hill Council voted to fill the Ward 4 Councillor seat by appointment, which is one of the options in the Council Vacancy Policy.

Applications for the Ward 4 Vacancy will be accepted from February 14 to March 15, 2022 at 2 p.m. Qualified individuals are invited to make an appointment with the Office of the Clerk (call 905-747-6406 or email clerks@richmondhill.ca) to apply in person for the Ward 4 Vacancy. Required documents:
Note: The Declaration of Qualification must be signed in person with a witness in the Office of the Clerk, 225 East Beaver Creek Road. COVID-19 health and safety protocols are in place at the municipal offices. There is no fee to apply to be appointed the Ward 4 Councillor. Optional DocumentsApplicants have the option of providing written information in respect to their application. Any correspondence can be a maximum of 10 pages, with a minimum 11 point font in either MS Word or PDF format. Council will vote to appoint a candidate during a Special Council Meeting to be held on March 22, 2022 beginning at 9:30 a.m. At the meeting, each candidate will have up to 10 minutes to address Council. Each Member of Council will be permitted one question to each candidate. As required by the Council-approved Procedures to Appoint an Individual to Fill a Vacancy, the speaking order will be chosen by lot prior to the meeting. The successful candidate will be appointed following a majority vote of Council, as outlined in the Procedures. The Special Council meeting will be conducted as a Hybrid in-person/electronic meeting. Applicants will have the option of choosing to give their presentation electronically or in-person. Applicants must select either in-person or electronic by Tuesday March 15, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. The successful applicant will be sworn in to office as soon as possible and serve until the end of the term, November 14, 2022. |

A Member of Council is elected or appointed to represent her or his constituents on Richmond Hill Council. The Ontario Municipal Councillor’s Guide provides a detailed overview of the role of a Municipal Councillor. Members of Council receive remuneration (salary and benefits) for serving on Council. The current annual salary (12 months) of a Ward Councillor is $82,581. |
