More in this Section...

Please Note: The aquatics industry is experiencing a national shortage of qualified lifeguards and swim instructors. We are working hard to open new programs as we recruit. Please continue to monitor ActiveRH for any new programs and place your name on a waitlist to improve your chances of securing a spot in the event one becomes available. Know someone who is a lifeguard or swim instructor? Let them know were hiring for aquatics employment and other great opportunities with the City. More information at Jobs.RichmondHill.ca.

Summer Recreation Contest (“Contest”)

From 7 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 EST to 11:59 p.m. on June 14, 2023 EST (“Contest Period”)

The Corporation of the City of Richmond Hill (“the Corporation”)

How to Enter

To enter the Contest, participants must register/sign up for a registered recreation program using their ActiveRH account. To be valid, your activity registration must be received by 11:59 p.m. EST on June 14, 2023 on RichmondHill.ca/ActiveRH.

Limit of one entry per registered program. If you attempt or are suspected of attempting to enter more than once per the contest period or use robotic, automatic, programmed or any entry methods not authorized by these rules, it shall be deemed as tampering and will void your entry(ies).

Eligibility

The Contest is open to all residents of the City of Richmond Hill (“Richmond Hill”) who are 18 years of age or older at the Contest opening date. Registration for children will be entered but the account holder or ‘payor’ will be considered the entrant for all registrations made from their account. Each registration will count as one entry.

Employees of the Corporation, as well as such employees’ immediate family (father/mother, brother/sister, son/daughter) or persons living under the same roof are not eligible to enter this Contest.

Procedure for Awarding Prizes

On June 15, 2023, a random draw will be conducted by the Recreation and Culture Division of the Corporation from among all eligible entries received during the Contest Period. The first (1st) selected contestant to correctly answer the mandatory mathematical skill-testing question shall be declared the winner, subject to meeting all the conditions described in these rules. The second selected contestant to correctly answer the mandatory mathematical skill-testing question shall be declared the runner-up, subject to meeting all the conditions described in these rules.

Winner(s) will be contacted by staff of the Corporation through the email or phone number provided in their ActiveRH profile submitted in the entry, during the week following the draw, and the prize will be added to the winner(s) account by July 31, 2023. If a winner cannot be reached within three (3) days following the first attempt of contact, incorrect answers to the mathematical skill-testing question, or declines the prize, the prize shall be forfeited and the Corporation has the right, at its sole discretion, to select another winner.

Description of Prize(s)

There is one (1) Prize available to be won.
The prize is: $100 awarded to your ActiveRH account. (Value $100)

General Rules
  1. To be declared a winner, the selected contestant must first correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question.
  2. Each winner shall sign a release declaring their eligibility as stipulated in Section 2 of these rules; agreeing that their name, image may be used for advertising purposes related to this Contest free of charge; and releasing the Corporation as well as its respective directors, officers and employees (the “Contest Parties”) from all liability for any damage or loss arising from participation in this Contest or from the awarding, acceptance or use of the prize.
  3. The prize(s) shall be accepted as is and may not be exchanged or refunded for an amount of money, sold or transferred. No substitutions will be allowed. Any unused portion of a prize will be forfeited.
  4. If the prize cannot be awarded as described in these rules, the Corporation reserves the right to substitute a prize or prize component with another of comparable value, as determined in its sole discretion.
  5. Refusal to accept the prize releases the Contest Parties from any obligation toward the winner.
  6. If a contestant makes any false statement, (s)he will be automatically disqualified from the Contest. The winner will have to validate their date of birth and mailing address prior to receiving the prize.
  7. The Contest Parties assume no liability for any loss, damage or injury, including without limitation: (i) lost, stolen, delayed, damaged, misdirected, late, destroyed, illegible or incomplete entries; (ii) loss, theft or damage to software or computer or telephone data, including any breach of privacy; (iii) fraudulent calls; (iv) inability of any person to participate in the Contest for any reason including mistaken addresses on mail or email; technical, computer or telephone malfunctions or other problems with computer online systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, or software; congestion on the internet or at any website, or any combination of the foregoing; (v) damage to any person’s computer, including as a result of playing or downloading any material relating to the Contest; (vi) any delay or inability to act resulting from any event or situation beyond their control whatsoever, including a public health or other emergency, or strike, lockout or other labour dispute at their location or the locations of the organizations and businesses whose services are used to administer this Contest; or (vii) prizes that are lost, damaged or misdirected during shipping.
  8. The Corporation reserves the right to cancel or suspend this Contest should a virus, bug or other cause beyond their reasonable control corrupt the security or proper administration of the Contest. Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws. Should such an attempt be made, the Corporation reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution.
  9. All personal information, such as name and contact information, is collected by the Corporation solely for the purposes of administering this Contest and shall not be used for any other purpose without your express consent. By providing this information, you consent to it being used for the stated purposes. Please see the Corporation’s’ privacy policy.

A selected contestant may be required to provide proof that (s)he is the authorized account holder of the social media account associated with the selected entry. All entries must be submitted from a valid email account that may be identified by reverse domain name search. The sole determinant of time for the purposes of receipt of a valid entry in this Contest will be the Contest server.
  11. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries. How do I find the list of Summer Programs?

Our programs are available online through ActiveRH. Find programs in ActiveRH by using the search filters; when, where, who, and activity, below the search bar. Search by location, age, date, time, program type, or interest. If registration has not yet started, you can easily add programs to your wish list for future registration.

Wait lists work!

If your program choice is full, be sure to add your name to the wait list and our program staff will contact you if a spot opens up. Wait lists let us know when there is a demand for a program and when possible we create additional courses.
