New parks and open spaces

We're developing new parks and open spaces for you and your family to enjoy. Here's a list of projects currently underway:

Direzze to Oxford Trail Connection - Design underway

We're planning a new trail connection between Oxford Street and Direzze Court. We are currently in the design stage. Opportunity to review and comment on the proposed design will be provided.

Great Lands Park - Design Underway

Plans are underway for the development of Great Lands Park located on Northern Heights Drive, south of 16th Avenue and east of Yonge Street.  This project includes the design, construction and programming of the approximately 0.3 hectare park adjacent to the Great Lands development in the south-east corner of the growing 16th Key Development Area (KDA). The 16th KDA Policy Directions report directs for the City to secure additional park lands to the east of this park. Until such time as those lands redevelop, this project will create an interim “pop-up” park on the Great Lands park site to serve local residents. This project is comprised of two components:

  • the interim design/construction of a passive park in 2022 with a crushed granite pathway loop, new site furniture, artful houses, tree planting, perimeter swale with naturalized no-mow zones and sodded green space in the center of the park, and
  • 5 years of events/park programming by the City’s Recreation and Culture Division. The funding requested will allow for the provision of 4 events per year, 15 weeks of outdoor programming per year, and 15 weeks of art programming per year.

Residents were invited to comment on the proposed design from February 22 to March 9, 2022.

Lake to Lake Cycling Route and Walking Trail - Construction underway

The Lake to Lake Cycling Route and Walking Trail will be a 121 km recreational and commuter trail connecting Lake Simcoe to Lake Ontario. It will form a key spine of York Region and the City of Toronto's active transportation network providing new opportunities for both recreational and commuter traffic to explore the region and to travel on dedicated and comfortable cycling and pedestrian infrastructure.

In Richmond Hill, the Lake to Lake route will span 14 km in a north-south direction from Bloomington Road to Highway 7, connecting with planned sections of the Lake to Lake Route in Aurora and Markham. As of January 2017, 4 km of the route within Richmond Hill are complete.

For information about this project, visit RichmondHill.ca/LaketoLake.
