Do you love to play hockey and want some extra ice time? Come out to shinny for an opportunity to improve your hockey skills and play some great games.

  • Pick-up games are planned by those in attendance.
  • Tickets must be purchased in person at the arena customer service desk.
  • Goalies play for free.
  • Ticket sales start 30 minutes before the scheduled start time on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Maximum of 24 players.
  • Shinny is open to participants 16 years of age and older.
  • Full CSA approved hockey equipment is mandatory for all players.  Neck guards are strongly recommended.
Drop-In Shinny Rules
  • No body contact is allowed.
  • No slap shots are allowed during shinny games.
  • Shinny is open to individuals of all skill levels and abilities.
  • All players need to wear full CSA approved ice hockey equipment for Richmond Hill's drop-in shinny program. Full Hockey equipment includes shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, jock/jill, hockey pants, shin pads, hockey jersey, hockey socks, CSA-approved hockey helmet, hockey skates, and hockey stick.  Neck guards are strongly recommended.

Participants must follow our Shinny Rules to make sure that everyone enjoys their time on the ice. Richmond Hill reserves the right to deny access to individuals deemed to be in violation of these rules.

Drop-In Shinny Fees

The cost for all participants is $8.50 per person per single visit and $76.50 for a 10-visit punch card.

Please note:

  • Skate rental or skate sharpening services are not available at Richmond Hill facilities and arenas.
  • Skate Memberships are valid from September through March and do not include Shinny or Figure Skating admission.

All programs are subject to a 10-minute ice resurfacing.

Children/Family Stick and Puck

Stick and Puck is a drop-in hockey/ringette program where children can practice shooting, passing, skating and stick-handling skills. Shinny games are not allowed during this time.  

  • Stick and Puck is open to skaters 15 years of age and younger.  Parents/Guardians are welcome to accompany children on the ice.  No adults ages 16 years and older are permitted without a child. 
  • Full CSA approved hockey equipment is mandatory for all skaters 15 years and younger. 
  • All skaters 16 years of age and older are required to wear a CSA-approved ice hockey helmet and gloves.
  • Maximum of 24 skaters.
  • Regular admission fees apply for accompanying adults or goalies.
  • Pucks/rings must be provided by the skater.
  • Tickets must be purchased in person at the customer service desk.
  • Ticket sales start 30 minutes before the scheduled start time on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Children 9 years of age and younger must be accompanied in the facility by a parent/guardian (at least 14 years old).
  • All programs are subject to a 10-minute ice resurfacing.

Stick and Puck Rules

  • Organized hockey games and structured practices are not allowed.
  • No body contact is allowed.
  • No slap shots are allowed.
  • Stick and Puck is open to skaters of all skill levels and abilities.
  • All skaters need to demonstrate consideration for others on the ice.  Patience for less experience skaters may be required.
  • Training equipment and pylons are not permitted on the ice.
  • All skaters 15 years and younger need to wear full CSA approved ice hockey equipment for the Stick and Puck program. Full Hockey equipment includes neck guard, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, jock/jill, hockey pants, shin pads, hockey jersey, hockey socks, CSA-approved hockey helmet, hockey skates, and hockey stick.
  • All skaters 16 years of age and older are required to wear a CSA-approved ice hockey helmet and gloves.
