Richmond Hill offers many skating opportunities for you and your family. Enjoy our indoor and outdoor locations, recreational skating, pickup shinny and a variety of registered Skating Programs for all levels and ages.

Indoor Recreational Public Skating

Recreational skating is a great way to exercise while having fun! These skates are open to participants of all ages.

  • Tickets must be purchased in person at the arena customer service desk.
  • Ticket sales start 30 minutes before the scheduled start time on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • All arenas are subject to a maximum capacity.
  • Children 9 years of age and younger must be accompanied in the facility by a parent/guardian (at least 14 years old).
  • All skaters 5 years of age and younger are required to wear a CSA-approved ice hockey helmet. Helmets are recommended for everyone.
  • All programs are subject to a 10-minute ice resurfacing.
Recreational Skating Rules
  1. All participants must be wearing skates while on the ice surface.
  2. All patrons five and younger must wear a CSA-approved ice hockey helmet (helmets are highly recommended for everyone).
  3. Skating aids are permitted on the ice. Staff reserve the right to restrict the use of any skate aids that may pose a safety issue. Please be mindful and respectful of other skaters on the ice.
  4. Food and drink are not permitted on the ice surface.
  5. Strollers/chairs are not permitted on the ice.
  6. Sledges and wheelchairs are permitted on the ice. Persons accompanying users must have skates on.
  7. Carrying infants on the ice is not allowed.
  8. Skate with the direction of all skaters.
  9. No skating backwards.
  10. Recreational skates are for non-instructional use only. Conducting private lessons during these designated times is prohibited.
  11. Hockey drills are not permitted during public skates.
  12. No horseplay/games/foul language.
  13. No figure skating.
  14. Refrain from throwing objects on the ice.
  15. No headsets, cell phones or handheld electronic devices are to be used while skating.
  16. No sitting on the boards.
  17. No one is permitted on the ice during resurfacing. Please wait for the gates to be closed and skate patrol staff to be present.

Skaters must follow our Recreational Skating Rules to make sure that everyone enjoys their time on the ice.  Richmond Hill reserves the right to deny access to individuals deemed to be in violation of these rules.

Join us for FREE skating, thanks to the support of our generous community sponsor. Spaces are limited. Participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until maximum capacity is reached.

Please Note:

  • Skate rental or skate sharpening services are not available at Richmond Hill facilities and arenas.
  • Skate Memberships are valid from September through March and do not include Shinny or Figure Skating admission.
10 Visit Drop-In Passes

NEW - you can now purchase 10 Visit Passes online and add them to your current membership card and use them right away. Load as many 10-visit passes on to your card as you like - they will never expire or lose value! 

Adding them to your card is easy! All you need to do is sign into ActiveRH, add the passes to your account, and purchase. Drop-in passes will automatically be added to your membership. View our tutorial for how to add passes to your account.

Drop-In Figure Skating

This drop-in is for experienced skaters of all ages to practice jumps, spins and the fundamentals of figure skating. Skaters must be able to skate forward and backward competently and be able to turn comfortably to attend this program. Please note, participants need to demonstrate consideration for other skaters on the ice. Participants must use extra caution and be mindful of others due to the ice being shared by multiple levels of skaters. Patience for less experience figure skaters may be required. Drop-in figure skating times are for non-instructional use only. Conducting private lessons during these designated times is prohibited.

  • Children 9 years of age and younger must be accompanied in the facility by a parent/guardian (at least 14 years old).
  • All patrons five and younger must wear a CSA-approved ice hockey helmet (helmets and elbow pads are highly recommended for everyone).
  • All programs are subject to a 10-minute ice resurfacing.
Figure Skating Rules

Figure Skating Fees

The cost for all participants is $8.70 per person per single visit and $78 for a 10-visit punch card.

  • Skate rental or skate sharpening services are not available at Richmond Hill facilities and arenas.
  • Skate Memberships are valid from September through March and do not include Shinny, Stick and Puck or Figure Skating admission.

Sensory Friendly Skating

Children and youth with disabilities and developmental needs and their families can enjoy an open skate with fewer people and a quieter environment. All abilities are welcome! There will also be sledges available to try. CSA-approved ice hockey helmets are mandatory for all participants.
