There are many volunteer opportunities in Richmond Hill. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, get experience and give back to the community. Our volunteer database makes it easy for you to sign-up for opportunities, track your hours and plan your volunteer work.

How to become a volunteer
Please note, all volunteers must be a minimum of 14 years old in order to volunteer with the City of Richmond Hill.
Build an online profile |
Build your online profile in our volunteer database. Follow the instructions and complete all required fields. Don't forget to save your profile! Once your online profile is successfully set up, you will receive two emails from us - one with your username and login information and one welcoming you to our volunteer program. |
Attend a volunteer orientation |
To learn more about our volunteer program and get yourself ready to volunteer, you must sign up to attend a volunteer orientation. |
Complete Accessible Customer Service Training |
You need to complete the AODA Accessible Customer Service Training online before you can start volunteering. You can access the AODA Accessible Customer Service Training online once you have successfully created your online profile. You will need to get a passing score of 80% or above in order to successfully complete the training. Upon completion, a notification will be sent to Volunteer Development and a badge will be shown on your online profile. |
Send us your required forms |
Volunteers aged 14-17:Please download and complete the Parent/Guardian Waiver Form. Your parent/guardian and witness need to complete this form. Volunteers aged 18 or above:You are required to get a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) from a local police office department.
Send your completed waiver form or Vulnerable Sector Check via either one of the following ways:

You are accepted and ready to volunteer! |
Once you complete all required training and submit all required documents, your online profile will be “accepted” within a few business days. You then can start to sign-up for volunteer opportunities by logging into your volunteer profile. |

For high school students, you can send your school form together (in PDF format if sent electronically). We will sign off on your school form for the approved hours and return it back to you. |
Court ordered community services
Please do not use our online volunteer database for court ordered community service. Instead, please email volunteers@richmondhill.ca for help with finding this type of position. Please note, this is only available for persons under the age of 18.
