2021 Richmond Hill Art Walk

  • Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, outdoor plaza

For the past 16 years, the City of Richmond Hill has offered the Studio Tour as part of its commitment to the arts, culture and support of local artists. In 2021, the Studio Tour will be replaced with a 1-day outdoor art show. This Art Walk show is an excellent opportunity for local artists and artisans to showcase and sell their work at one of three locations in downtown Richmond Hill. 

Call for Applications is now open. Deadline to apply is Friday, July 30, 2021. 

Artist Application Form

There are two options for applications.  

  1. Application for code: 65015 for a 10' x 10' space at the Elgin Barrow Arena Park, Heritage Centre, RHCPA fee: $60 + HST.  Artists should mark their first and second choice of location, as space is limited at each site.
  2. Application for code: 65026 for space in a 20' x 40' tent at Elgin Barrow Arena Park fee: $60 + $130 for the tent. Total: $190 + HST Space is limited to 8 artists. 

Artists applying for option 1 will be required to supply their own tent. There may be a few City tents available on a first come, first served basis.

For both options tables and chairs will be provided and art grids are available on a first come first served basis. 

Artists will be notified of acceptance by August 12, 2021.

Artists not accepted for the 2021 Art Walk Event will have their funds returned. Full Art Walk Event fee payment is due upon application to the event.

Application Information

Application is open to all artists and fine craft artists, however priority is given to those living and working in Richmond Hill and 2019 and 2020 Studio Tour Artists. Additional artists will be accepted if space allows.

  • The Richmond Hill Art Walk is a juried event.
  • The show will include artists working in a variety of disciplines.
  • Artists should be working at their art form in a dedicated and proficient manner and are viewed as such by their peers.
  • Artists must present and display their work in a professional manner so it can be readily viewed by the public.
  • Artists must represent their own original works, created by the artist, including but not limited to the following: painting, photography, drawing, sculpture, pottery, blown glass, carving, fibre art, printmaking, collage, stained glass, weaving and jewelry.
  • Artists must set up and at their location from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021. Take down can start at 6 p.m.

Selection of artists is based on the following criteria:

  • quality of the artist's work (original work only)
  • balance and variety of medium
  • not all applications may be accepted and the decisions of the selection team are final

The City of Richmond Hill is responsible for:

  • administration
  • production and maintenance of website 
  • publicity, promotion, and marketing (artists participation is also required)
  • production and allocation of directional signs
  • managing the budget and payments for event related activities
  • secure community venues

Artists are responsible for:

  • Submit application and support material to the City of Richmond Hill on time along with complete fees and other requested material supplied as needed 
  • Follow the RH Studio Tour Facebook page, like, comment and share posts.
  • Promote tour through your own contacts, databases, affiliated organizations and galleries
  • Utilize your own social media channels, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram to promote the Event
  • Post link to Event information to your own web-site (if applicable)
  • on the event day:
    • Sell only your own artwork, accepting commissions, recruiting for classes, and offering/distributing promotional material 
    • Offer demonstrations during the event
    • Be present to the public throughout the hours indicated 
    • Keep and report visitor statistics to the City of Richmond Hill
    • Continue to publicize, promote and market the event.

Application deadline is Friday, July 30, 2021.

Do I have to visit all of the sites?

You can visit any of the sites that you are interested in. 

What can I expect at each site?

Each artist will set up their exhibit in a 10' x 10' outdoor space. Along with their display of artwork, you may be able to see their process for creating their artwork and any special tools or equipment that is used. You will have the chance to speak to the artist and ask questions.

Are all sites wheelchair accessible?

Not all. Spaces are either outdoor park spaces, or a paved surface at the RHCPA are wheelchair accessible. 

Is there parking at each site?

Yes, there is parking at Elgin Barrow Arena and the RHCPA. There is street parking only at the Heritage Centre, with a 2 hour limit. Visitors are encouraged to park at Elgin Barrow Arena and walk to the Heritage Centre.  

What if it rains?

This is an outdoor event and artists and visitors should be prepared for inclement weather. The event will go ahead rain or shine

Are there special protocols due to the COVID-19 pandemic?

The show will be operated following the provincial guidelines and requirements at the time of the show. Physical distancing, masking and hand sanitization protocols will be in place as required. Information will be updated closer to the event date.  

What if I see a piece of art that I like? Can I contact the artist after the Art Walk?

Yes, the contact information for the artists is included on the webpage. You can contact the artist after to Art Walk if you are interested in purchasing a piece of art. They may also have a website that lists any upcoming shows they are participating in. Artist websites are listed in the brochure.
