    NEW PARKS & OPEN SPACES

    Saigeon Trail extension between Towerhill Road and Jefferson SideroadConstruction Underway
    A Public Open House was held on July 3, 2014 for residents to comment on  the proposed design of the Saigeon Trail extension. This project includes the construction of trails, boardwalks and a bridge. Construction is now underway and is expected to be complete by October 2016 (weather permitting). As a measure of safety, portions of the site will be fenced off during construction and all residents are asked to avoid entering the area.

    Lake Wilcox Park - Construction Underway
    The Lake Wilcox shoreline is getting a makeover! The new promenade is now open and construction of the boardwalk is underway. We're also proposing to create a youth area at the south end of the park. For more information about this project, visit RichmondHill.ca/LakeWilcoxPark.
     

    TransRichmond Trail Gamble Glen ConnectionDesign Underway
    A new trail connection between the existing TransRichmond Trail and Gamble Glen Crescent (located south of Gamble Road, east of Bathurst Street) is currently in the design stage. The alignment will be selected to keep environmental impacts to a minimum. Construction is scheduled for fall 2016.

    Hidden Springs ParketteDesign Underway
    A new parkette on Arten Avenue, south of Elgin Mills Road, west of Yonge Street is currently in the preliminary design stage. The parkette will include a junior playground, a senior playground, seating areas and plantings. Construction is scheduled for June 2016.

    Jefferson Salamander Park (proposed name) - Design Underway
    A new on the east side of Bayview Avenue (across from Oak Ridges Community Centre) and south of Bethesda Side Road is currently in the preliminary design stage. The proposed design will include a natural playground with swings, shade structure, pedestrian lighting, seating areas and plantings. Construction is proposed for 2017, pending budget approval.

    Town staff held a public open house on June 21, 2016 to discuss the proposed design with the neighbourhood. Based on the comments received, the Town plans to proceed with the design with minor changes.

    ENHANCEMENTS TO CURRENT PARKS & TRAILS

    Hughey ParkConstruction underway
    The Town is planning to replace the playground at Hughey Park (located on Fern Valley Crescent, west of Bloomfield Trail, south of Bloomington Road West) and upgrade the site to meet current standards. Construction is scheduled to begin in late June 2016 and completed by December 2016 (weather permitting). As a measure of safety, the site will be fenced off during construction and all residents are asked to refrain from entering the park.

    Town staff held a public open house on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 to discuss the proposed design with the community. Based on this meeting, the Town plans to proceed with the design as presented.

    Richvale Greenway North Bridge Replacement – Construction to begin shortly
    The Town is planning to replace an existing pedestrian bridge that crosses the East Don River located north of May Street, east of Kersey Crescent. The bridge will be raised and realigned with a new 14 metre pedestrian bridge. Stream rehabilitation work may also be required. We are currently in the design stage. Construction is proposed for 2016 pending budget approval.

    Little Don Park - Design Complete, Construction deferred until 2017
    The Town will be replacing some facilities within the park and upgrading them to meet current demands. The design is complete and the project will be tendered in the fall. Construction is scheduled to begin in May 2017.

    Town staff held a public open house on June 11, 2015 to discuss the proposed design with the community. Based on the comments received, the Town plans to proceed with the design with minor changes.

The proposed improvements include new junior and senior play equipment with swings, sand play area, seating, and additional planting. Construction is proposed for 2017, pending budget approval.

    Morgan Boyle Park Canada 150 Revitalization Project – Design Underway
    This community park located on Pearson Avenue just north of Garden Avenue, west of Yonge Street is in the preliminary redesign stage. The existing junior and senior playground will be renewed and enhanced with the addition of a new Canada 150 themed splash pad. The existing parking lot, senior soccer field, slo-pitch softball diamond and tennis courts will also be renewed. Check out the video or the PDF below to see the proposed design. Construction is proposed for 2016, contingent upon budget approval.

    Public Open House & Comment Period 
    Residents were invited to view and comment on the proposed design for the revitalization of Morgan Boyle Park at an Open House on December 1.
