In 2008, the Town of Richmond Hill completed a study to determine if it was feasible to relocate its main Municipal Offices (Town Hall) from the current location at 225 East Beaver Creek Road to a Town-owned site at the south west corner of Yonge Street and Major Mackenzie Drive. After researching the space needs, planning requirements and civic spaces in other municipalities, the study concluded that relocating the Town Hall to a newly built facility at the proposed location was feasible. However, Council wanted to hear from the community on this matter prior to making any decision.
A community consultation process was held in Fall 2009 to gather feedback on the possibility of building a new Town Hall. The process provided the Town with a mandate to further investigate a number of issues, but not with a mandate to build a new Town Hall at this time. Council directed staff to investigate and report back on a number of issues that were raised by the public, including options for funding the project and how building a new Town Hall might impact the Town’s other priorities. For a summary of the results of the consultation, see the report presented to Council in November 2009 at the link below.
