Council passed a motion to discuss changing Richmond Hill from a town to a city. The discussion will take place at the March 25, 2019 Council meeting. RICHMOND HILL – The Town of Richmond Hill has reached a settlement with its former Commissioner of Planning and Regulatory Services, Ms. Ana Bassios. Ana Bassios was an exemplary employee and served the Town ably and competently as Commissioner of Planning and Regulatory Services for many years, and the Town thanks her for her many years of service and wishes her well in her future endeavours.

Richmond Hill Opts Out of Cannabis Retail
RICHMOND HILL – Richmond Hill’s new Council voted unanimously to opt out of cannabis retail stores within its municipal boundaries in accordance with the Cannabis Law Statute Amendment Act, 2018. The Act allows municipalities to opt out before January 22, 2019.

Richmond Hill Names New Parks
Council approved the names of three new park sites, in accordance with the Policy for Naming and Renaming Town Parks, Open Space and Recreation Facilities. The new parks are Bill Bell Park, Flood Farmstead Park and Jefferson Salamander Park. Bill Bell Park is named after William (Bill) Fraser Bell, the longest serving Mayor in Richmond Hill’s history.
