Birth and Death Certificates
Birth certificate
If your child was born in Richmond Hill on or after February 24, 2009, you must register the birth with the Province of Ontario. Your online registration will also allow you to apply for a birth certificate and a social insurance number for your child at the same time. You can record your child's birth through ServiceOntario. For help, contact the Office of the Registrar General or call them at 416-325-8305 (toll-free 1-800-461-2156).
You can also get a birth certificate for your child through ServiceOntario. Pay online with your credit card and the document will arrive within 15 business days or you will get your money back.
Death certificate
Follow these steps to get a death certificate:
- A doctor or coroner fills out a Medical Certificate of Death and sends it to the local Division Registrar;
- A family member and funeral director complete the Statement of Death;
- The funeral director helps send the Statement of Death to the local Division Registrar. This completes the registration;
- Once this is complete, the next of kin can print and apply for a Death Certificate.
