Who takes care of planning information?
Richmond Hill's Planning Division is made up of Sections and Committees of Council who manage planning information. The Planning Division includes:
Committee of Adjustment |
The Committee of Adjustment staff process applications, including consent applications for owners requesting to divide their land and minor variance applications for owners who request an exception to Zoning By-law requirements. |
Development Section |
The Development Section processes development applications. The Section also processes Sign By-law Amendments, which deal with signage on commercial properties and Municipal Addressing applications, which deal with street address change requests. |
Park and Natural Heritage Planning Section |
The Park and Natural Heritage Planning Section supports natural heritage efforts and the planning for parks in Richmond Hill. This Section also deals with tree preservation. |
Policy Planning |
The Policy Planning Section sets the long-term policy framework and goals for Richmond Hill through the Official Plan. The Section is also responsible for preparing City-wide and area-specific studies and analyzing demographic information and research about Richmond Hill. |
Sustainability Section |
The Sustainability Section develops and coordinates the City’s broad-scale environmental policy initiatives through the Environment Strategy, the climate change framework, and support for sustainable development. The Section is also responsible for coordinating environmental education and engagement. |
Transportation Section |
The Transportation section oversees traffic safety, speed and parking assignments, signs and school crossing guards in Richmond Hill. |
Urban Design and Heritage Section |
The Urban Design and Heritage Section develops city design policies, studies and guidelines to help plan the future look and feel of Richmond Hill. The Heritage Section helps to manage Richmond Hill's heritage resources and works with Heritage Richmond Hill. |
