Snively Wetland Environmental Assessment
Project Background
The City of Richmond Hill is undertaking an Environmental Assessment Study of the Snively Wetland and adjacent stormwater management facilities at Paradelle Drive (2-14) and Worthington Avenue (2-15). The study will determine their current state, as well as identify and assess potential alternatives for improvement of the wetland’s water level conditions and to enhance the performance of the stormwater facilities.
The study area is bound by Bayview Avenue to the east, Worthington Avenue to the west, Snively Street to the south and Paradelle Drive to the north (see map).
Snively Wetland is a naturally occurring water body and is classified as a Provincially Significant Wetland as part of the Wilcox-St. George Complex. It receives drainage from about 100 hectares of land. The two adjacent stormwater ponds drain to Snively Wetland. This wetland has experienced issues related to water level fluctuations, impacting some adjacent properties.
The study is being conducted in accordance with Schedule B of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) process (October 2000, as amended in 2007, 2011 and 2015). As part of the class EA process, evaluation of alternatives, assessment of the potential environmental effects and identification of mitigation measures for potential adverse impacts will be conducted and presented through public and agency consultations. Upon completion of the study, a Project File Report documenting the planning and decision-making process will be prepared and made available for public review.
Public Communications and Consultation
Notice of Commencement |
A Notice of Commencement for this project was mailed to adjacent residents on November 28, 2022. An online version is published here. |
Public Open House |
An Open House was held on June 11, 2024 at the Oak Ridges Community Centre where residents were invited to join us for an overview of the Snively Wetland Outlet Environmental Assessment project, as well as review and provide feedback on proposed rehabilitation solutions. To facilitate public input for those who were unable to attend the in-person event, an online survey was open between June 11 and July 2, 2024. |
