Godwin Chan has been a dedicated public servant in Richmond Hill since 2006, with over 20 years of leadership in policing, education, public health, and road safety. Currently serving as Deputy Mayor and Regional and Local Councillor, he chairs the Economic Development Committee and co-chairs the York Region Human Services Planning Board. He also serves on the boards of Housing York Inc. and York Region Rapid Transit Corporation. Deputy Mayor Chan was instrumental in key initiatives such as securing National Historic Site status for the David Dunlap Observatory and founding the Yonge North Group to support subway extension. He championed Age-Friendly Strategy to promote active independent living for seniors and Service Charter to improve accountability. His community volunteerism includes co-founding Richmond Hill Road Watch and establishing the St. John Ambulance Youth Cadets Unit. Nationally, he has served as a Director of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. Deputy Mayor Chan has provided advice to the Association of Ontario Municipalities’ Healthy Democracy project since its inception. A recipient of the RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Award in 2016, Chan holds a Juris Doctor degree from Osgoode Hall Law School and a Master's degree in Public Administration from Harvard University.
