Community Garden Program
Since 2017, Richmond Hill’s Community Garden Program has been pairing suitable spaces on City-owned lands with interested gardeners to grow local foods, native plants, and flowers that support pollinators like bees and butterflies. Several gardens donate their produce to food banks and other community services. The Program features both allotment gardens, where individual gardeners can rent a plot, and collective gardens, where a group manages the tasks together.
Partnership with York Region Food Network
The City works in partnership with the York Region Food Network, a non-profit organization that offers services and programs to support food security. City staff sit on the York Region Food Council, Community Engagement and Community Gardens working groups to collaborate on initiatives that strengthen local food systems in our communities.
