This afternoon, York Regional Police announced it has laid charges against Richmond Hill Councillor Karen Cilevitz for Breach of Trust by a Public Officer and Fraud Over $5,000.
It is important to allow the legal system to determine the outcome of this case. City officials are cooperating with police. Under the Municipal Act, the councillor is permitted to retain her seat at this time.

RICHMOND HILL – Today, the Province announced that York Region, including Richmond Hill will move into the “Grey – Lockdown” level of the COVID-19 Response Framework effective Monday, December 14 at 12:01 a.m. for a minimum of 28 days. The Province announced earlier today that it is moving Richmond Hill to the Grey-Lockdown level of Ontario’s COVID-19 Framework, effective Monday, December 14 along with the rest York Region. This difficult step is being taken to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
