Allowing more homes for more people in Richmond Hill
You're invited to provide feedback on additional residential units
Richmond Hill – Richmond Hill is working to increase the housing supply to help alleviate a province-wide housing crisis. The City is developing proposed changes to its Official Plan and Zoning By-laws to increase the number of residential units that can be built on a property.
The proposed changes will allow up to four residential units on single-detached, semi-detached, or townhouse properties, where currently three are permitted.
The changes will also allow up to four storeys as-of-right in the Richmond Hill GO Station Major Transit Station Area (MTSA) and the MTSAs along the Yonge Street and Highway 7 priority transit corridors, within the mixed-use centre or corridor designations.
Richmond Hill will host several public open houses to give residents the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback about the proposed amendments. An online survey will also be available for the public to provide further feedback.

The proposed changes are part of Richmond Hill’s initiatives for the federally funded Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) program. The City aims to enable more homes for more people across all neighbourhoods, especially near rapid transit stations.
