Disabled Parking Fines Continue to Fund Mobility Initiatives in Richmond Hill
Richmond Hill continued its ongoing commitment to providing access to services for all residents by approving the Richmond Hill Mobility Accessibility Foundation’s (RH Mobility) $44,000 grant request. The funds will be used for RH Mobility’s assistive devices program, recreation programs and a Fundraising Program Assistant. Funding for the grant is drawn from the Disabled Parking Fines Reserve (established in 2004), which is replenished with 50 per cent of disabled parking fine revenue. RH Mobility received $449,000 since 2006 and is integral in making Richmond Hill a more accessible and inclusive community. For more information, contact David Dexter, Director, Financial Services & Treasurer, at 905-771-2484.

Richmond Hill to Participate in Fair Access Pilot Project
A gap in after school programming for students aged 10-14 created an opportunity for Richmond Hill to step up as one of four York Region Municipalities that will be testing programming options to resolve the issue. By approving staff’s recommendations, Council indicated their support to deliver affordable after school programming to assist the growing number of families and individuals in the community who are struggling to make ends meet. Together with the Region of York Community and Health Services Department, the York Region District School Board (YRDSB) and the York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB), the Recreation and Culture Division will soon begin running after school programs at St. Charles Garnier Catholic School. Roselawn Public School students will be invited to join the St. Charles Garnier students throughthe 2014-2015 school year. The programs are for Grade 6-8 students within the geographic area of St. Charles Garnier whose families’ financial situations present a barrier to program participation. For more information, contact Lauren Steckley, Manager of General Programs, at 905-787-1441, ext. 224.

Continuing Conservation of Richmond Hill’s Heritage Buildings
Richmond Hill’s history is special to residents and visitors alike and that is why the Town is committed to preserving its unique structural heritage for future generations to enjoy. At their meeting, Council approved the Heritage Committee’s recommendations to award a number of property owners of designated historic properties $25,441.50 in Heritage Grants to undertake improvements on their properties which will also preserve their unique historic features. At the same meeting, Council also approved the Committee’s recommendation to designate three properties (11181 Yonge Street, 33 Betony Drive and 37 Chao Crescent) under the Ontario Heritage Act. For more information, contact Matthew Somerville, Heritage and Urban Design Planner, at 905-771-5529.
