Planning for the 2018 Municipal Election is Underway in Richmond Hill
Council received a report regarding the next municipal election, which takes place on Monday, October 22, 2018. The report notes changes to the election calendar as a result of amendments to the Municipal Elections Act. Most notably for those interested in running in the next election, a shortened nomination period will run from May 1 to July 28, 2018. Council also approved the 2018 election strategy, which includes the use of optical scan vote tabulators and the establishment of a compliance audit committee. The compliance audit committee is responsible for considering applications from eligible electors who believe, on reasonable grounds, that a candidate has contravened the Act. For more information, contact the Town Clerk, Stephen Huycke at 905-771-2529.
The next Committee of the Whole Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. and the next Council Meeting is Monday, February 27, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held in Council Chambers.
