Council Highlights
Emergency Preparedness Starts with You
Council received a presentation from Deputy Fire Chief Brian Ellsworth regarding Emergency Preparedness Week, which runs from May 7 to 13. This year’s theme is Emergency preparedness starts with you…#prepareyourselfie and residents are encouraged to share their preparedness selfie on social media. In his presentation, the Deputy Chief noted that emergencies can happen at any time and everyone should be prepared. Citizens are encouraged to make an emergency plan, build a 72-hour emergency kit and stay informed. Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services (RHFES) staff will be out in the community during the week talking to residents about how to get prepared and giving away great prizes. Emergency preparedness resources and a schedule of RHFES Emergency Preparedness Week activities can be found online at RichmondHill.ca/EmergencyPreparedness. For more information, contact Deputy Chief Brian Ellsworth at 905-771-2899.
Temporary Parking Regulation Changes Coming to Blackmore Avenue
Council approved temporary parking regulation changes on the east side of Blackmore Avenue to allow drop-off and pick-up activity for Doncrest Public School during the Ed Sackfield Arena expansion and David Hamilton Park Revitalization construction project. Because the parking lot on Blackmore Avenue (adjacent to David Hamilton Park) will be closed during construction, the “No Stopping” signs on the east side of Blackmore Avenue directly in front of Doncrest Public School will be replaced with “No Parking” signs from May 12, 2017 to September 28, 2018. This will allow parents to safely drop-off/pick-up their children at the front of the school during construction and ensure parking does not occur along this stretch of Blackmore Avenue during the day. Local residents and parents have been notified of the changes. To learn about the Ed Sackfield Arena expansion and David Hamilton Park Revitalization project, visit RichmondHill.ca/RecProject. For more information about parking regulations on Blackmore Avenue, contact Richard Hui, Manager of Transportation, at 905-771-5478.
The next Committee of the Whole Meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 15 at 4:30 p.m. and the next Council Meeting is Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held in Council Chambers.
