Lest We Forget
Remembering those who served and the freedoms they fought to protect
RICHMOND HILL – Each year, Remembrance Day offers us a moment to pause and reflect on the courage, service and sacrifice of Canadians who have served our country in times of war, conflict and peace.
For me, November 11 is a time to think about the people behind that service and sacrifice – those who left their families and communities to serve, those who never returned home and the veterans and members of the Canadian Armed Forces who continue to serve our country today.
Remembering is a responsibility we all share. It’s up to each of us to listen and respect the stories and sacrifices of those who served. It’s also up to us to help younger generations understand why remembrance continues to matter.
Here in Richmond Hill, we are proud to stand with our veterans, the Richmond Hill Legion – Branch 375 and our community in paying tribute to all who have served. I encourage residents to join us at this year’s Remembrance Day Parade and Ceremony, Sunday, November 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the Richmond Hill Cenotaph on Yonge Street.
And wherever you are on November 11 at 11 a.m., I hope you’ll take a moment to pause in silence and reflect.
As we remember those who came before us, let us also honour their legacy through the way we live today – with respect for one another, gratitude for our freedoms and a shared commitment to peace.
On behalf of the City of Richmond Hill, lest we forget.
- Mayor David West
