Mayor Dave Barrow delivered his 2020 State of the City Address to virtual attendees of the annual Richmond Hill Board of Trade Mayor’s Luncheon this afternoon.   

This year’s address focused on how Richmond Hill has weathered the global pandemic including providing tax relief and minimizing the economic impact of COVID-19 on the community, celebrating businesses that are making a difference and launching the Recover Richmond Hill Action Plan to support the local economy.  

The Mayor also highlighted the community-building that has continued in 2020, with the grand opening of the state-of-the-art Oak Ridges Library, the new 130-metre long lake Wilcox boardwalk, completion of an expanded Ed Sackfield Arena with an NHL-sized ice pad and 180-metre indoor track and a redeveloped David Hamilton park including multiple new community amenities.

“What has kept me going through all of this is the incredible spirit from the people I speak with in the community. Residents who are making the best of frustrating times by exploring our trails, helping make masks, staying fit with our online rec videos and so much more. Small businesses I visited who are working with the City to adapt their services to provide online purchasing, curbside pickup and delivery, and wonderful take-out meals. This is the lifeblood of our community. And nothing has filled my heart with greater pride than seeing how we are coming together to do our part to help stop the spread of this terrible virus,” he said.
