Mayor's 2024 Remembrance Day Message
We Remember
On November 11, Remembrance Day, we honour the service of Canadian men and women who served in times of war, military conflict and peace, and those that continue to serve. It’s a day to remember those who sacrificed their lives for our city and our country. These were people from all backgrounds who fought on our behalf for the life and freedoms we enjoy today.
This year, the Remembrance Day Parade and Ceremony in partnership with the Richmond Hill Legion – Branch 375 takes place on Sunday, November 10 to commemorate the meaning of the day. The parade will form at 10 a.m. at the northwest corner of Yonge and Wright Streets and proceed south on Yonge Street starting at 10:30 a.m., ending at the Richmond Hill Cenotaph. At 10:45 a.m., the Ceremony of Remembrance will commence.
We will also be lowering our flags to half-mast for Remembrance Day at all Richmond Hill facilities.
In the coming days, I encourage you to take a moment to pause and reflect. Wherever we are on Remembrance Day at 11 a.m., let us stop to remember all of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our community and our country in the First World War, the Second World War, the Korean War, Peacekeeping missions and in Afghanistan.
Lest we forget.
Mayor David West
