RICHMOND HILL – The City has reinstated construction noise limits back to pre-pandemic levels. Effective immediately, construction noise in Richmond Hill is, once again, prohibited:

• Mondays to Saturdays from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
• All day Sundays and on statutory holidays

The City also made changes to the noise by-law for deliveries to follow new rules outlined in the Municipal Act. Noise due to loading and unloading is prohibited between the hours of 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. as well as all day Sundays and statutory holidays, unless it is for retail business, restaurant, hotel, motel or distribution centre.

During the pandemic, the province temporarily suspended municipalities’ authority to regulate noise in connection with the delivery of goods and construction. This suspension was lifted, thereby reinstating municipal powers to regulate these noise types.

Richmond Hill’s Noise By-law provides standards for noise in our community, outlining times and limits that certain noises are allowed.
