Project Blaze Program Inspires Careers in Fire Services
Richmond Hill program welcomes female high school students to learn more
RICHMOND HILL – Registration is now open for Project Blaze 2025 – a program to encourage, educate and empower more young women to pursue a career in the fire and emergency services field. Now in its fourth year, the program is run by the City of Richmond Hill’s Fire and Emergency Services team for female-identifying high school students.
The three-day event, taking place May 23 – 25, provides participants with an opportunity to observe and experience all areas of the fire service and see how their skills and interests can lead to a rewarding career in fire suppression, 911 communications, investigations and inspections, public education, mechanical and more.
To be eligible to participate, applicants must:
- Identify as female, be enrolled in a Richmond Hill high school, or be a resident of Richmond Hill, attending a high school in a neighbouring municipality
- Be able to supply your own Canadian Standards Association (CSA) safety footwear (all other personal protective gear is supplied)
- Have a positive attitude and be in good physical condition
- Possess a valid Ontario Health Card
- Be committed to attend all Project Blaze activities for the full duration of the program
- Register prior to the deadline
Participants will have the opportunity to engage with staff and experience various firefighting tasks, such as search and rescue, climbing ladders, operating fire hydrants and hoses, performing fire inspections, experiencing emergency dispatch duties and public education.
