Public Service Announcement: Changes to City Recreation Programs in Response to Expanded Provincial COVID-19 Restrictions
Richmond Hill – Today, the Ontario government announced additional public health measures for York Region, including Richmond Hill, beginning Monday, October 19, 2020.
As a result, the City is making the following changes to recreation activities:
- indoor in-person fitness classes are cancelled
- indoor in-person dance classes are cancelled
- aquafit classes and swim lessons are cancelled
- skating lessons are cancelled
- public skating is cancelled
- fitness centres/weight rooms are closed
- Ed Sackfield indoor walking track is closed
Those impacted by cancelled programs and closed facilities will be contacted directly. The City of Richmond Hill will fully refund all user fees charged.
What continues
The City will continue the following programs and activities with capacity restrictions and other health and safety measures in place:
- lane and leisure swimming
- virtual recreation programs
- select in-person recreation programs
- drop-in recreation programs
- indoor athletic training permits (e.g., hockey), however no scrimmages or competitive game play is allowed
- permits for outdoor sports
The total number of participants for all continuing activities and rentals cannot exceed 10 people (indoors) and 25 people (outdoors). These limits may be lower in areas where two metres physical distancing can’t be maintained.
Help keep our community safe
Residents are reminded you can help stop the spread of COVID-19 by:
- Avoiding close contact with anyone other than members of your household
- Maintaining physical distancing of at least two metres from others
- Wearing a mask or face covering
- Washing your hands thoroughly and often
- Staying home if you’re sick, even with mild symptoms
- Downloading the COVID Alert app
- Following advice and guidance from York Region Public Health
