Reminder: August 1 is the Deadline for Library Board Applications
RICHMOND HILL – Applications for the Richmond Hill Library Board will be accepted up to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2019. The application form can be found online at RichmondHill.ca and in the Office of the Clerk located on the ground floor of the main Municipal Offices (225 East Beaver Creek Road). Council voted to add five additional members, with a supporting by-law, to the Library Board at its July 9, 2019 meeting.
The call for applications was advertised online and in The Liberal newspaper. To be eligible, candidates must be a resident of Richmond Hill, 18 years or older, a Canadian citizen and not an employee of Richmond Hill or a local board.
A special Council meeting will be called to consider the applications and make appointments to fill the vacancies as soon as the application period is closed.
The Richmond Hill Public Library provides exceptional service to the community that is highly valued by residents. Members of Council look forward to participating fully in the library governance process to support the library and ensure a continued strong partnership. Members of Council currently on the Library Board are Ward 1 Councillor Greg Beros, Ward 2 Councillor Tom Muench, Deputy Mayor Joe DiPaola and Deputy Mayor Carmine Perrelli.

- Ontario’s Public Libraries Act (PLA) is the key piece of legislation governing Ontario’s public libraries. Under the PLA, public libraries in Ontario must be operated under the management and control of a public library board. The board has the authority to formulate policies concerning the operations and services of the public library. A public library board is responsible for the operation of its library system. Boards and municipalities work in cooperation toward common goals.
- The Richmond Hill Public Library is governed by the Richmond Hill Library Board, which is appointed by Richmond Hill Council.
