Renaming of the Renaissance Room in Bayview Hill Community Centre
Council is requesting public comment in accordance with the City’s Policy for Naming and Renaming City Parks, Open Space and Recreation Facilities.
The City of Richmond Hill is proposing to rename the Renaissance Room within the Bayview Hill Community Centre (at 114 Spadina Road) to the:
Raj Sethi Room
Mr. Raj Sethi is a long time Richmond Hill resident who celebrated his 90th birthday in 2022 and is still working full-time as a volunteer in various Richmond Hill and York Region organizations. In 2006, he founded the York Region Indian Seniors Club and he has acted as president of the Club since that time. Mr. Sethi is also the recipient of numerous community awards, including a Richmond Hill Senior Volunteer Achievement Award, the Ontario Volunteer Service Award, a Portraits of Giving Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. Through his devotion to serving the community, and particularly seniors, Mr. Sethi has helped to make Richmond Hill a better place.
It is proposed that the Renaissance Room at the Bayview Hill Community Centre be renamed to honour and recognize Mr. Sethi’s dedicated volunteer services and contribution to Richmond Hill. The existing “renaissance” name is not known to have any special significance.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns regarding the renaming of the room as outlined above, please contact Donald Hearn, Director, Recreation and Culture at donald.hearn@richmondhill.ca or 905-771-2503 by March 10, 2023.
