Request for Public Comment - Park Names
Please be advised that we are no longer accepting comments regarding these park names.
Council is requesting public comment in accordance with the City’s Policy for Naming and Renaming City Parks, Open Space and Recreation Facilities.
The City of Richmond Hill is proposing to name two parks within the park and natural heritage system as follows:
Abraham Law Parkette
(located on Briggs Avenue, east of Bayview)
Abraham Law was the first Reeve of the first Village of Richmond Hill Council. He became Reeve for the newly incorporated village in January of 1873. With Richmond Hill becoming a city earlier this year in March 2019, this commemoration would recognize the growth of Richmond Hill full circle, from village to town to city.
Private Charles Hill Park
(located on Rockwell Road, north of Highway 7)
Private Charles Hill was a resident of the suburb of Richvale at the start of Second World War. Born in September 1919 to John and Sarah Ann Hill, he enlisted just before his 20th birthday with the Royal Regiment of Canada. After his enlistment, Private Hill served in both Iceland and England before making the ultimate sacrifice for his community and his country as part of the landing group that raided the beaches of Dieppe on August 19, 1942. He is laid to rest in the Dieppe Canadian War Cemetery, located in the village of Hautot-sur-Mer in France.
