RICHMOND HILL – Richmond Hill congratulates the City of Markham on its selection as the location for a potential York University and Seneca College campus in York Region. York University announced its decision earlier today.
“While I am disappointed that the campus will not be in Richmond Hill, I’m excited about the possibility of having a campus so close to Richmond Hill,” said Mayor Dave Barrow. “We look forward to working with our neighbours to the east and with the entire York Region community in supporting York University’s bid for a campus in our Region.”
Richmond Hill was short-listed as a potential location for a new campus along with the cities of Markham and Vaughan. Town Staff and the Mayor delivered a presentation that was aligned with a core set of principles that York University and Seneca College set out.
“I’m proud of our submission,” added the Mayor. “With Richmond Hill’s central location, superb amenities, access to multi-modal transportation, diverse community and industrial base, a York University Campus would have been ideal.”
The new campus is part of York University’s plan to respond to the province-wide Call for Proposal by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to increase student capacity in areas of growing demand for postsecondary education.
