Richmond Hill – Richmond Hill Council, staff and honoured guests raised the Richmond Hill 150 flag today to officially kick-off celebration of this momentous milestone.
Richmond Hill was officially incorporated as a “Village” in 1873. Its development was closely linked with the development of Yonge Street. Farmers travelled to Toronto markets from further north and stopped in Richmond Hill along the way. Early in the twentieth century, several large greenhouse operations were built in Richmond Hill, while rose growing turned the City into the "rose capital" of Canada.
The City’s RH150 celebrations will honour both its history and its future, with community activities such as tree planting and time capsules. Throughout the year, existing City-led programs and events such as Rib-fest and Concerts in the Park will be themed to commemorate RH150.
Along with branding across the city on vehicles, gateway signs, facility entrances and more, residents are encouraged to watch for the RH150 community photo booth. It will pop up in gathering spaces across the community, beginning in January at the main Municipal Offices, 225 East Beaver Creek Road. Residents can take a photo and tag the City’s social media using #myRH150 for a chance to be featured throughout the year. Watch for our posts to see if you can guess where the community photo booth has landed each month.
Richmond Hill also wants to hear your stories! Share what you love about Richmond Hill for a chance to win a limited edition Richmond Hill 150 prize pack. There will be a prize draw each month.
The RH150 online store will provide the opportunity to purchase your own RH150 branded products, including book bags, playing cards, picnic blankets and more.
