Councillor Godwin Chan re-elected to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Board of Directors
RICHMOND HILL – Richmond Hill Councillor Godwin Chan joined municipal leaders from coast to coast at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ (FCM) 2019 Annual Conference and Trade Show to deliver a united message to the federal government - support for local governments is critical to delivering results for Canadians.
The FCM has been the national voice of municipal government since 1901. Members include Canada’s largest cities, small urban and rural communities and 20 provincial and territorial municipal associations. Municipal leaders from all parts of Canada assemble annually to establish FCM policy on key issues.
At the conference held in Quebec City from May 30 to June 2, attendees shared ideas about how to improve lives in their own communities.
“Whether it’s better roads, transit, housing or water systems, local governments are building better lives,” said Councillor Chan. “We make the most of the tools available, but the upcoming federal election needs to empower us to get even more done for people in Richmond Hill and for Canadians across the country.”
On June 2, Councillor Chan was re-elected to the Board of Directors. Over the years, Councillor Chan has served on several FCM Standing Committees including Community Safety and Crime Prevention; International Relations; Municipal Finance and Intergovernmental Arrangements along with Municipal Infrastructure and Transportation Policy.
“I am grateful to have the trust of my colleagues to return me to the national board to continue advocacy and policy work for issues and concerns that matter to local communities in Canada,” said Councillor Chan. “It’s critical to ensure issues affecting citizens’ lives in communities are on the federal agenda in 2019 as Canadians go the polls in October.”
The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) is the national voice of local government, with over 2,000 members representing more than 91 per cent of Canadians.
