Inaugural Report Will Help the City Manage Assets into the Future

Richmond Hill – Richmond Hill Council has endorsed the 2023 State of Infrastructure (SOI) report, further committing to the responsible management of City infrastructure and assets.

The City currently maintains more than 73,000 trees, over 14,000 street lights, 665 km of watermains, 608 km of sanitary sewers, 588 km of roads, 528 recreation amenities, 171 km of bicycle lanes and cycle tracks, 167 parks, almost 100 stormwater management facilities, not to mention the 11 recreation facilities, six fire stations, four libraries, and more.

Over 90 per cent of the City’s infrastructure assets are young, with an average age of 20 to 30 years old and are estimated to be in good condition.

Reporting on the status and condition of City-owned assets and identifying potential infrastructure needs, the SOI report will guide Council and City staff to make informed and timely decisions regarding investment in infrastructure. This will, in turn, support the development of future capital budgets and also ensure that the municipality’s service levels continue to be maintained.

The SOI report complements the City’s 2021 Asset Management Plan which outlines the City’s approaches for the efficient and cost-effective maintenance of City infrastructure. The plan also takes into consideration changing demographic trends, growth and the City’s Climate Change Framework.
