As always, the health and safety of the Richmond Hill community continues to be our top priority.

The increased public health measures announced by the Province today are difficult but necessary to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and protect all citizens, particularly our most vulnerable.

I recognize these new closures place a heavy burden on our local business owners and their staff. The City will continue to support the local economy through our Recover Richmond Hill Action Plan, and we look to our provincial and federal partners to continue doing everything they can to help businesses survive this second wave.

I also once again call on our amazing community to be there for our business-owning neighbours and friends. You can help make a difference by ordering takeout or delivery, shopping online and supporting local businesses on social media.  

Our community has done a great job fighting COVID-19. As we see the alarming increase in cases in the GTA, it’s critical we all continue to do our part. Please wear a mask, maintain physical distancing, wash your hands and do everything you can to stay safe and healthy.

As I stated last week in my Thanksgiving message, I know it is harder to strictly follow the rules the longer this pandemic goes on. We all have a right to be upset and angry at COVID-19 but not at the people trying to keep us safe. Please remember your actions can save lives.

Don’t be disheartened by this second wave. Instead be more determined to stay home whenever possible, use video and phone calls to stay connected and ensure your actions help protect your loved ones.

I know our community is up to this continuing challenge and we will get through it together.
